Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. – Nelson Mandela
As a natural introvert, I know how challenging it can be to work up the courage to do seemingly small things. However, one of the side effects of healing and practicing self-love is losing concern over others' opinions and judgments. You also come to realize that everyone projects their own insecurities and perceptions onto you anyway.
But if you need help mustering up some courage, especially during times of change or uncertainty, flower essences can help. Flower essences are herbal supplements that can help you through difficult or challenging times and support your emotional well-being. According to the flower essence services website, flower essences are “liquid extracts used to address profound issues of emotional well-being, soul development, and mind-body health".
In the 1930s, Dr. Edward Bach, a bacteriologist and homeopathic doctor discovered that flowers in nature can positively affect our emotions and that the energies from different flowers can remove emotional pains. Bach developed 38 flower remedies that dealt with common emotions or what he referred to as "weaknesses" or "character flaws". He saw these flaws as negative personality traits that caused disharmony between someone's personality and soul, making the body prone to illness. Bach divided the remedies into seven main emotional groups: Fear, Lack of Interest, Loneliness, Oversensitivity, Despondency and Despair, and Overcare for Others. Bach believed these underlying emotions could be transmuted into more positive states of being with the help of flower essences.
"Disease of the body itself is nothing but the result of disharmony between soul and mind. Remove the disharmony, and we regain harmony between the soul and mind, and the body is once more perfect in all its parts." - Dr. Edward Bach
Aspen (Populus tremula) in particular, falls under the category of "fear" and can be used to support courage and inner-strength. According to the flower essence services website, Aspen's positive qualities are trust and confidence to meet the unknown and sensitive attunement to the spiritual world. It can be used when you feel imbalanced in instances of fear of the unknown, vague anxiety and apprehension, hidden fears, nightmares, or when easily frightened.
I have used ‘Aspen’ by flower essence services when I have had to step into the unknown and noticed very positive side effects, especially when repeated with the affirmation below:
ASPEN AFFIRMATION:
I am open to trans-physical awareness.
I encounter what is unknown without fear.
My sensitivity is a gift for others.
My courage is a light for others.
