WHY CLEANING OUT YOUR CLOSET IS SO HEALING

Updated: Nov 1, 2023

I love fashion and clothes. I am also a serial closet cleaner, and I don’t stay very attached to things. I am constantly letting go of items and making space for the new, because for as much as I am shifting and evolving, so is my style and what feels good to me. But even more than that, I could tell you a story about every item in my closet. When I bought it, where I got it, who gave it to me, where I wore it, who I was with when I wore it, and how it made me feel. Clothes hold so many memories and so many feelings. We attach moments and chapters of our lives to the pieces in our closets. They remind us of happy times, sad times, people, places, and things from our past. That’s A LOT of energy. So when it’s time for a fresh start or a new chapter, it’s time to clean out your closet and let go of items that you no longer feel good in, or just no longer feel good to you because it reminds you of something that you are moving on from and they're taking up a lot of space both physically and energetically. It’s so healing.

Think of cleaning out your closet as a physical release of old, stagnant energy so you can create space for the new in your life. Whether you are ready for a fresh start or just want to get out of a rut, start cleaning out your closet. As you go through your process, you might find it easy to purge things. If it’s harder to let things go, allow yourself to feel what you need to feel along the way, but I assure you, you’ll feel better once you let go of it all and start bringing in fresh things. You can drop off unwanted items at The Real Real or sell them yourself on eBay and Poshmark.

Think of how good it feels to put on a new outfit or a piece of clothing you just bought. New clothes inspire. They renew your energy, boost your confidence, and refresh your spirit. When you shift your energy by putting on clothes that make you feel good, you show up differently, and the Universe responds to that.
